Dear Families,
On Tuesday, February 11th, our school will participate in Safer Internet Day 2025, joining schools and youth organizations worldwide to promote safe and responsible internet use. Throughout the week, Middle and High School students will engage in age-appropriate lessons on digital citizenship and AI literacy.
Middle School students will learn about digital citizenship and AI literacy, test their knowledge on scams and phishing through a quiz, and complete interactive modules from Cornell University’s Social Media TestDrive program. These modules cover key topics such as privacy settings, digital footprints, and responding to cyberbullying.
High School students will explore Artificial Intelligence literacy, watching a video that introduces key components: Awareness, Capability, Knowledge, Critical Thinking, and their importance in today’s world. They will also complete interactive modules from Cornell University’s Social Media TestDrive program.
Safer Internet Day is celebrated in approximately 170 countries, encouraging young people, parents, and educators to create a safer and more positive online environment. This year’s theme, “Together for a Better Internet,” highlights the importance of collective action in creating an internet that is safe, inclusive, and empowering for all.
Online safety is an essential part of our school’s curriculum, and we encourage you to continue these conversations at home. The UK Safer Internet Centre offers free resources, tips, and activities for families (https://saferinternet.org.uk/online-issue/parental-controls) and (https://saferinternet.org.uk/guide-and-resource/parents-and-carers), and Common Sense Media provides valuable, searchable information on digital well-being (https://www.commonsensemedia.org/).
Thank you for your ongoing support in promoting safe and responsible internet use for our students.
Kind regards,
Nicolette Cossey, Digital Learning Coach (Secondary School)
